Painted Aluminum
24' H x 165' L
Culver City, CA
This public artwork began with an appreciation of the extensive Ballona Watershed and its far reach into the Los Angeles Valley. The installation is inspired by the tall wetland grasses in the region and their ability to create dense, animated surfaces and volumes. This large-scale sculpture is a study of how hundreds of separate elements, once arranged, contribute to a monumental composition. It is composed of 425 uniquely formed 3” diameter aluminum tubes that are arranged in a dense, surface-like configuration. The gradient color palette reinforces the perception of depth in the artwork, with forward elements being lighter shades, while elements in the back take on darker tones.
